FRAME KIND OF FLIMSY, BENT BY SOMEONE HITTING MY TRAILER. | 2001 | Albert P. | FORT LAUDERDALE FL | 08/13/08 | 1.00 | I purchased a 2001 Tundra May of 2004 with 12,000 miles on it and was happy with only a few minor problems at first. Well lo and behold 4 yrs down the road I have a major sludge problem in the engine. This problem nearly cost me a new engine and acually it is still being repaired at this writing.T he expense will probably cost me around a thousand dollars if not more before it is all over. I contacted Toyota about this problem sinc going on line and finding that Toyota has long had this problem with some of their 6 cylinders, I was tpld that my truck was out of warranty because it has 64,000 miles on they would not be able to help me at all. I explained that Toyota acknowledged the problem was a design flaw there answer because I have a Tundra I am not qualified under there campain to help me with the repairs. The six cylinder I have is the same 6 they fixed and admitted had a problem with but because I have a Tundra I don't qualify. Well needless to say I am stuck and will never own another Toyoto again and will discourage anyone anyway I can not to by one of these trucks in the future. If anyone wants to contact me I am open to suggestions on what I can do. | 2001 | Joe A. | NEW ORLEANS LA | 07/21/08 | 2.00 | electrical problems with ignition/starter | 2001 | Jeremy G. | COLUMBIA SC | 05/28/08 | 4.00 | O2 Sensors foul out. | 2001 | Timothy J. | SEYMOUR CT | 05/07/08 | 3.00 | front brakes are an issue | 2001 | Rebecca B. | TORRANCE CA | 04/22/08 | 2.00 | Brake Rotor Problems have been consistent since the first 25k miles. | 2001 | Royce F. | ANCHORAGE AK | 04/10/08 | 3.00 | (optional)Exaust manifold cracking, too small front disc brakes & rotors | 2001 | Rita S. | SUGAR GROVE NC | 12/12/07 | 1.00 | My husband could have been killed when the passenger side tire came off with no warning. Lower ball joint failure. I have seen several others on this site. Apparently, Toyota is aware of a problem as there is a recall on 2002-2004 for this part failure. Seems the problem began before 2002. We will be seeing our attorney and would welcome any other ideas or help in dealing with this vehicle. Also had to replace transmission and transmission housing at 120,000. | 2001 | James G. | WEST PALM BEACH FL | 11/12/07 | 3.00 | Brakes are a major problem. Must change over to drilled and slotted rotors on the front with ceramic disc brakes. This will finally alleviate the problem of overheating and warped rotors! | 2001 | Kevin L. | FUQUAY VARINA NC | 11/22/06 | 5.00 | No major problems other than O2 sensor replacements. | 2001 | Mario C. | SAN DIEGO CA | 09/05/06 | 2.00 | Front rotors, front pads, rear drums, rear shoes replaced at 10k miles (warpage). 4 tires replaced at 5k miles (excessive wear). Water pump replaced at 35k. Right front shock replaced at 8k. | 2001 | Robert G. | CORVALLIS OR | 03/04/04 | 4.00 | I have enjoyed driving my 2001 Toyota Tundra. However, my Oxygen sensors on the exhaust manifolds failed recently at 37,000 miles. Prior to the engine malfunction light coming on, I noticed that valve noise would occur after the engine was warm on restarts. I also noticed carborization (fuel too rich) occurring at the tail pipe end. The sensors were found to have siezed in the exhaust manifolds during replacement. Toyota replaced the manifolds and sensors for no charge, stating the defect was covered by Toyota. Now the truck runs without the tapping of the valves on restarts. |
