02/09/09 4.00 I've had problems with the headlights for the past 6 months...I'm thinking that the service dept. at the local dealership was not on top of something that should have been taken care of by warranty. This is a very expensive item to miss and I am feeling very taken advantage of at this point!

12/25/08 2.00 We have had electrical problems repeatedly. The whole dash goes out, it has been into the dealer 5 times within the first 12,000 miles with the same issue. It has been very frustrating dealing with the dealers poor service. Finally told the dealer that I would not accept it back until they figured out how to fix the problem. We have had to drive it home at night with no dash lights, no speedometer, etc. Sounds like a safety issue to me. We are NOT happy with the quality of the electrical system and this car blows all over the road in the wind.

09/06/08 5.00 My Prius has 27,000 miles on the odometer, and the car was purchased with options package 5 which included high intensity headlamps. At 25,000 miles I noticed the driver side headlamp was not lighting. I took the car into the dealer and they tightened thee connections, and the next day the lamp again would not light. Taking it back to the dealer, they changed the bulb and explained to me that there was no charge since the vehicle was still under warranty. They also explained that the bulb cost $350.00 and I was lucky the problem occurred before the warranty expired - 36,000 miles? Now at 27,000 miles the passenger side headlamp was not igniting. Again, I took the car into the dealer and they tightened the connections and explained that these HID bulbs normally last 3-5 years, and the chances of another burned out bulb were virtually nil. They proceeded to tighten all connections and two days later, again the bulb would not ignite. I turned off the ignition and waited about 15 seconds and it ignited as normal. But this is not something that I should be expected to do every few miles when the bulb fails to ignite. At $350/bulb, that kind of negates the gas savings I am getting for one year. Now I'm feeling sorry I ordered the option 5 package with GPS and those damn HID bulbs. Careful you don't make the same mistake if you buy a Prius. Haack

08/21/08 4.00 I have two Prius. My 2002 has 200,000 miles and my 2007 has just over 65,000 miles. For all who may run into this issue... 3 months ago, my 2007 had a headlight go out but then it would come back on again. Go out... back on, etc. I finally got it to the shop and they told me that it would be $350 plus labor to replace it, and it was not covered under my extended warrentee. I was not prepared to pay that much (thinking it would be a $50 job to replace a lightbulb) so told them to leave it and I would look around for a better price for a light bulb. That night after picking up the car at the shop, and their poking around in there to determine the original problem, both headlights started going on and off and that made things really dangerous as both would sometimes go out at the same time. (Turning the light switch off then back on would cause them to both reignite, but then quickly one or the other or both would blink out again). It cost me $860 to have them both replaced. Now it has been a few months and I have found several other 2007 Prius onwers having the exact same problem. (So far 6 other owners that I know of personally) I called the 800 number for Toyota's complaints and they immediately approved reimbursement of my full $860 dollars. I think they are attempting to avoid a recall on these faulty headlights, and at $350 each plus labor, anyone who has had this problem or are currently having this problem, now is the time to hit Toyota up for them to pay for it. (FYI: No problems at all with my 2002) Good luck!

07/01/08 4.00 sometimes it feels like the breaks are going out on the car and it freaks me out, i am not sure if there is an issue with my car, or all Prius models...whether what i am experiencing is normal or what. maybe its an issue with switching between electric and the engine? i dont know.... otherwise i like the car alot

05/26/08 3.00 I absolutely hate the VSC Vehicle Stability control system. I know other vehicles have it and have a shut off system for it. I suggest Toyota go back to having that option available on all Prius models. I live in Vermont on a dirt road and find that when it hit bumps or the washboard areas of the road the VSC goes on and I have to wait until I coast beyond the bumpy road in order to acceleraate. I also have experience some very scary conditions during winter roads as well. When I pull off of my road I have to make an extreme turn to keep from going over an embankment. When pulling off my road if the road is at all slippery the car does not go... it will not turn which makes me see the embankment as a serious threat as well as the knoll other cars are coming over. I again have to wait until the Prius has coasted past the slippery spot in order to accelerate again. It is scary to say the least and had to say if they do not improve the models to have a shut off for this feature I am not sure I will purchase this vehicle again. I was pulling out of my driveway and got stuck where the snowplow had just gone through, had my car been able to accelerate I would have made it through this small area, but since the VSC kicked in I had to back down my drive way and gun it...hoping that I didn't have to stop at the top of my drive way for other vehicles. These issues make a very unsafe situation! My gas mileage has been OK but not awesome. It is awesome compared to most other vehicles but the best I could do in the winter with winter tires was 36 MPG and in the warmer weather my normal is 47 MPG. The only time I got into the 50's was on a road trip. I certainly expected better mileage than I am getting on average.. but still am happy with the mid forty range. The car is very roomy and has a comfortable ride, with the exception of the VSC I enjoy driving my vehicle.

04/24/08 5.00 In the last 17 months I have had two HID headlamps and two taillights burn out. HID headlamps are very expensive and since I have over 36,000 miles on the vehicle the last headlamp is not on warranty. Has anyone else experienced this?
