| 05/06/09 | 4.00 | great car | 2004 | Candace P. | WILLIAMSBURG VA | 05/02/09 | 5.00 | 2004 Prius MFD is not working properly. About $1,000 to fix with reconditioned MFD. Research shows that this is common problem | 2004 | Jerry L. | PORT JERVIS NY | 04/23/09 | 2.00 | Have 75,000 miles on it & check engine light went on. Dealer stated that the diag. check stated that fuel fumes activated it and that it wasn't due to gas cap. Dealer has the car for 1& 1/2 days and still cannot find source of the problem. Has anyone else had a sililar problem | 2004 | Alison F. | PELL CITY AL | 03/31/09 | 4.00 | HID bulbs need replacement when they sporadically begin blinking off while driving. Toyota bulbs cost $375 a piece and require removing front bumper to replace and special tools. Sometimes both lights may blink off simultaneously. | 2004 | Bruce A. | GRANADA HILLS CA | 03/18/09 | 3.00 | I purchase the 2004 Prius with Package 9 and have been happy with car. I drive during rush hour in the greater Los Angeles area and don't seem to get better mileage than 40/45 pg. The car has 98,000 miles and is 5 years old. I've been happy with the car performance and had only basic scheduled maintenance. I purchased the 100 Miles extended warranty and I am not sure it was worthwhile to have. The list of exception is so big that anything that goes wrong with a car and easily for in one of the thousand exceptions. For example, the GPS and entire MFD went bad about six months ago and although Toyota is aware of this MDF failure in several 2004/2005 Prius, they make no exceptions to help the consumer. Armed with time and lots of patiency I embarqued on a journey to find more about the problem. To make a long story short, what it could have cost me $4,000+- is ending up in approx $450 (buying a refurbished/reconditioned unit and having Toyota to install for approx $40). | 2004 | Wayne S. | CLINTON WA | 02/23/09 | 2.00 | This is the most expensive car I have ever had to maintain. Now it is $350 to replace the Brake master cylinder reservoir - it is plastic and the mice/rats like to eat it. Before is was $400 to replace the water pump and before that $1300 to fix the HID headlights.
The only really good thing about a Prius is gas mileage. | 2004 | Maxine R. | CLEVELAND OH | 01/22/09 | 4.00 | tires wear quickly
dead battery 2x in the last month | 2004 | Mike M. | HUNTINGTON WV | 01/16/09 | 3.00 | Drive train - has slowly developed a low frequency vibration that Toyota service cannot locate and fix.
Electrical - Main instrument panel goes blank leaving driver without speedometer | 2004 | Jennifer D. | HOBART OK | 01/15/09 | 1.00 | dealership is unable to fix, brakes keep failing on our car. 6 repair attempts have failed. complaint lodged with toyota constumer satisfaction departmebt. | 2004 | Charles M. | SEATTLE WA | 12/14/08 | 4.00 | traction control scary | 2004 | William B. | RODEO CA | 11/19/08 | 1.00 | multi-display disconnects auidio and climate control shuts off. Toyota knew of this problem and never informed me of a possible problem, now I'm off it's waranty and the best deal they have is $900. for a reconditioned on. Would have a higher rating of this car if it was fixed by toyota free of charge. | 2004 | Donald H. | SANTA MARIA CA | 11/13/08 | 3.00 | MFD has stopped working Dealer quotes price to fix of 4910.00. I'm shocked and unhappy | 2004 | Tracey M. | ETTERS PA | 06/02/08 | 4.00 | We would have rated this car as excellent since we've had it from 2004 and put over 130,000 on it with not problems..until recently. Had to replace the catalytic converter-very expensive. Before that the only replacement was two headlight lightbulbs. They were each over $100.00 but didn't mind since they were the first of anything to need replaced. | 2004 | Diane W. | REDDING CA | 05/13/08 | 4.00 | 2004 - touch screen not working properly | 2004 | Joseph B. | IRVINE CA | 05/07/08 | 4.00 | Overall happy with car | 2004 | Will F. | ROCK ISLAND TN | 05/07/08 | 4.00 | s | 2004 | Reinhard B. |

I would rate it excellent except for the problem that caused the warning lights to come on and stopped the car. I was away at the time and the local dealer was horrible causing me layover delay and money. | 2004 | Lisa L. | SOMERSET MA | 03/04/04 | 5.00 | So much more than I expected.
I've had this car for 5 months and it passed it's first New England winter easily! UPDATE: Have car for 1 year. This car has passed the summer months with flying colors. I even did a paper route for 2 weeks with this car in 85 degree temps and got 47 mpg. This was constant stop and go for over 50 miles daily. |
