2003 | Michelle S. | CLEMMONS NC | 01/24/10 | 1.00 | Have had nothing but problems with my 03 Passat.. | 2003 | Roberta J. | AMSTON CT | 01/05/10 | 3.00 | ...oil in coolant..not good. VW needs to take responsibility but won't. Headlights - totally cloudy...not good. Never had a that happen to a vehicle. Cannot see to drive at night. Expensive to fix. This will be my last Passat. | 2003 | Tom S. | PROSPECT KY | 12/18/09 | 1.00 | The absolute worst car I have ever owned and VW doesn't stand behind them. Very poor engineering. | 2003 | MARK W. | NEW FREEDOM PA | 12/17/09 | 1.00 | I bought my 2003 passat GLX V6 new and have 122,000 miles on it which based on my previous driving experience with other vehicles is still rather low milage for the number of issues that are affecting my vehicle of late. I have had numerious check engine lights within the last 1 1/2 yrs - number 5 cylinder (twice); used or lost oil (1-2 qrts) which occured after 2K being put on subsequent to routine oil change usind 6 qrts of synthetic 5w-40; catalitic code right side tripped and then corrected itself. and lately no engine lights but the transmission went into limp mode halfway into my morning commute only to correct itself and leave code P0734 - unfortunately no one but a dealer could further diagnose and once at the dealer the codes cleared. | 2003 | Cherie H. | FOLLANSBEE WV | 10/11/09 | 2.00 | Recall after recall after recall. UGH!!!! | 2003 | Dennis C. |
| 03/22/09 | 4.00 | Only complaint is knobs breaking for the Monsoon Radio's Bass & Treble Controls... | 2003 | MICHAEL M. | ELMHURST IL | 03/02/09 | 3.00 | Expensive repairs | 2003 | Dave L. | SAN PEDRO CA | 02/20/09 | 3.00 | ac makes a swishing sound after pressure builds | 2003 | Cristopher N. | PENSACOLA FL | 02/08/09 | 1.00 | Great german engineering never made it to the U.S. via the 03 Passat. My car drags in day to day traffic, the rpm dial matches my speed/acceleration dial, rpm rev's are way to high, the possible speed shows 160mph but at 80mph the car shakes (had it aligned and balanced with new tires...still, no dice), the red gauge on the driving read-out with the digital stats ie..mpg/temp/park-drive-neutral etc...on it fades away when i drive far or is already faded when it's warm/hot outside. After 6 months of ownership I already spent $700 of my own money and over $900 of my warranty's coverage and i'm sure this is just the start of it. | 2003 | Ali S. | VIRGINIA BEACH VA | 01/15/09 | 1.00 | Sucks...don't buy it. | 2003 | Joan G. | CATONSVILLE MD | 01/08/09 | 1.00 | oil sludge - 2003 passatt, had every oil change made timely at the dealership except one, car broke down at $64000 miles, oil sludge, independent repair shop made the repair at $3000, volkswagen won't reimburse anything because it was not towed to a dealership. However, I was offered a $2500 coupon towards the price of a new volkswagen. NO THANKS, NEVER AGAIN | 2003 | Sharon S. | MASON CITY IA | 12/16/08 | 2.00 | Until the past two years I had few complaints. The car rides well and seems luxurious. However, in the past two years I have spent almost $2,000 on repairs - boots, brakes, belts. And now my electronic locking system is failing. | 2003 | Kevin F. | NORRISTOWN PA | 12/09/08 | 2.00 | Fuel pump just went 46k miles; was not covered under the recall even though displayed the same signs (i.e. stalled while driving) | 2003 | Patricia I. | ROANOKE VA | 10/14/08 | 2.00 | I love the car, but it is expensive to maintain. The engine light is on regarding the coolant system and my mechanic is stumped after attempting to repair it 5 times. | 2003 | Janice D. | FREMONT CA | 10/13/08 | 4.00 | Very happy with way car drives. But unhappy about burning about a quart of oil every 1000 miles, seems like more than its share of electrical problems. | 2003 | Kristi R. | EXETER CA | 10/04/08 | 1.00 | recalls after recalls, expensive repairs dealers 70miles away | 2003 | Fran O. | BRONX NY | 10/01/08 | 1.00 | I'm not sure if my 2003 Passet was previously damaged, but I'm not happy with the way VW is handling my cancerns due a fire statred by thefailure to notice me about a heat schield failure | 2003 | Zea C. | JACKSON NJ | 08/15/08 | 1.00 | Brakes, acceleration, windshield wipers & fluid, dash controls, service. | 2003 | Madeleine K. | FORT WAYNE IN | 07/28/08 | 2.00 | No problems until I moved to northern midwest - oil sludge problem required $$$ repairs. | 2003 | Bob S. | PLANO TX | 05/23/08 | 2.00 | Sludge build up | 2003 | April B. | TAMPA FL | 05/18/08 | 3.00 | Steering always feels out of alignment | 2003 | Stephen G. |

| 01/31/08 | 1.00 | do not purchase this vehicle | 2003 | Gary W. | ALPHARETTA GA | 08/15/07 | 1.00 | At 60,000 miles I was told I need to replace the engine and the car is out of warranty. | 2003 | Kathy D. | SAINT LOUIS MO | 07/31/07 | 3.00 | I owned a 2003 Passat and sold it. Loved the car, but the engine issue that was repaired once around 80,000 was becoming and issue again with over 100,000 miles. I decided to cut my losses and get out of the VW brand. Cause was sludge. I was not notified of the extended warranty even though I owned the car for 5+ years. | 2003 | Mark B. | COVINGTON KY | 07/15/07 | 3.00 | Make sure you change the oil at regular intervals, and you will be ok. | 2003 | Dominick N. | AIEA HI | 04/17/07 | 5.00 | This Car is Fantastic. I bought it new in 2003 and have 167,000 Miles on it right now. Its just been a beautiful car. Aside from the 2 Coilpack replacements and the rear rotors being replaced twice I have not owned a better vehicle. | 2003 | Jo-Anne S. | LINCOLN RI | 12/04/06 | 3.00 | Haven't had any major problems, but our milege is extremely low. Did notice the brake lights staying on, happened once. They shut off when brake pedal was tapped. | 2003 | Verena J. | PROVIDENCE RI | 08/28/06 | 2.00 | As much as I love the drive, there are just to many issue with this car. I am constantly in the shop. | 2003 | Rudy V. | NEEDHAM MA | 01/02/06 | 2.00 | If we do not drive the car for a week, the battery needs a jump start. Dealer suggested i connect a trickle charger to keep it from dying. | 2003 | Jp C. | BETHLEHEM PA | 11/25/05 | 4.00 | The Passat is a great car when it works. | 2003 | Little E. | GASTONIA NC | 11/08/05 | 2.00 | Not reliable at all. Many problems. MANY. | 2003 | Daniela S. | CLINTON TOWNSHIP MI | 08/01/05 | 2.00 | piece of s...t | 2003 | Paige N. | St Louis MO | 07/18/05 | 1.00 | The dealership, The Dean Team of Kirkwood, Missouri is unethical and fraudulent, as is the manufacturer Volkswagen of America.
I've never encountered such reprihensible conduct by an individual(s)/business or corporation.
It goes without saying, I wish I'd never purchased a Volkswagen Passat. I can't count the # of times I've been stranded. The MANY times my car seized/stopped running-NO WARNING TO ME OR OTHER MOTORISTS- while driving on an interstate at 60-70mph. It's apparent the dangers inherent in these problems.
Furthermore, it is my intent to expose these businesses; 1) The Dean Team is the worst dealership i.e. unethical practices & more,
2) Volkswagen is the worst manufacturer (the scope of their unethical conduct) is beyond my comprehension,
3) The VW Passat the worst automobile I've ever owned. (the dangers which exist are immeasureable).
I'd always read/heard the great reputation of VW of A & their warranties...LIES! The Dean Team blatantly lied regarding the extended warranty. Nothing about this so-called document meant anything-extended or otherwise. The warranty is worth less than the paper in which it's written. The Dean Team & VW of America literally cost me (and countless others) thousands of dollars. pl | 2003 | Phyllis R. | COSTA MESA CA | 05/12/05 | 1.00 | 2003 passat 1.8 turbo- WARNING!!! do not buy engine has design flaw in the turbo and oil turns to sludge. 3rd time since 2005 my car has been in the shop for 3 months in pieces. Dealer said to tow there, assumed some responsibility now I have to pay 1700.00 with no warranty that it won't happen again. | 2003 | Albert P. | FAIRFAX VA | 07/19/04 | 4.00 | Best car I've ever owned | 2003 | Phyllis B. | ALPHARETTA GA | 06/07/04 | 3.00 | I have had the same warped rotor problem at under 24K miles whichI had to pay for myself.. I think it is starting to happen again at 40K miles. I have had the sunroof component replaced under warranty, A/C fan component replaced under warranty.. I am concerned because my car seems very hot when it is turned off. However, the fan does stop after a few minutes. I also had the engine light problem which was finally resloved by replacing a component under warranty (after about 6 trips to the dealer) They tried t tell me I should only use Chevron gas. RIGHT! |
