(not counting oil changes). Most was covered under warranty and Subaru nicely took care of it, but the problems never should have happened. Catalytic converter, wheel bearings, and now the head gaskets are gone as well as some other leaks. All this on top of 4 sets of all new tires, the first set of new tires and alignment was in March 05 after purchasing the car in November of 04. Also it has needed a couple of alignments and extra wheel balances. Car has 98000 miles. Headlights have had to be replaced at an early stage in owning the car and brakes have gone as well. Upon calling Subaru of America they claimed that because they fulfilled the warranty work on most repairs they were not at fault. Also they stated that since I "did not prove to be an excellent Subaru owner because I did not complete the 30,000 mile, 60,000 mile or 90,000 mile maintenance it showed that I was not willing to take care of my Subaru so they would not be willing to help me." They did finally offer me $500.00 toward either the repair of my vehicle or towards a purchase of a new Subaru. | 2005 | Jon K. | NEW YORK NY | 05/22/08 | 4.00 | Pluses: 2.5XT Handles well, comfortable, good breaking, great acceleration - great for long highway hauls
Minuses: Early clutch failure, poor gas mileage, needs premium | 2005 | Michael F. | LAFAYETTE CO | 05/04/08 | 0.00 | No comments | 2005 | Gary O. | GREENFIELD IN | 10/15/07 | 1.00 | This has been the most disapointing car I have ever owned. When changing the rear tire (flat) upon jacking up the car (proper jacking point) the winshield exploded .... the structure of the car is so inadecuate that the stresses of a tire change shattered the winshield. Snow and ice around the rear deck caused (when opened -- then closed -- the sheetmetal hindge to bend letting water run into the car in massive amounts. Subaru is not the car it was prior to 2002
Do not make the Subaru Mistake. The Outback is a very expensive car to own and the tqwo that I paid to much for were JUNK. The Roof window leaks also.
comapre a new one with an older one and you will see the difference. I regret having ever purchased a Subaru! | 2005 | Michael W. | BLACKSBURG VA | 04/09/07 | 2.00 | Would be a great car... but the turbo has blown for the second time in as many years. We're still waiting to see if Subaru will cover us on this out of warranty failure. In the last week I've read a number of stories that perfectly parallel our own. | 2005 | Frank H. | PENNINGTON NJ | 03/22/07 | 3.00 | Excessive wear on outer edges of tires after 44K miles. My previous Outback had 65K when turned in and tires were still satisfactory. |
