Gasoline Prices

GAS PRICES AROUND THE COUNTRY
Environmental Regulations -
There are over 20 different blends of gasoline all intended to help clean the air. All these blends cost more to refine than plain old unleaded gas. So prices vary depending on the formulation.

Contracts and Competition - Service stations usually maintain some kind of contractual relationship with a major gasoline supplier. This can make it difficult for some stations to compete on price because they are tied to a contract.

Speculation in futures - Gasoline is traded on futures markets, so speculators can affect prices. Sometimes price changes are driven by by perceived world events.

Taxes - Taxes in the United States average about $0.42 per gallon and typically make up 15-20% of the cost of a gallon of gas. Taxes account for the difference between the relatively low gasoline prices in the U.S. and high prices in many other countries where gasoline costs over $4.00/gallon.

CAR MANUFACTURER WARRANTY EXPIRATION LIMITS

All new vehicles come with a basic warranty (often referred to as bumper-to-bumper). Some vehicles also include a longer (very) limited power train warranty. Different manufacturers offer different lengths of time and mileage that their warranty is good for. It varies from from 3 to 5 years for their basic warranty or 36,000 to 60,000 miles which ever occurs first and from 5-10 years  or 36,000 to 100,000 mile for the power train which ever occurs first.

CAR WARRANTY TYPE DEFINITIONS

Basic Manufacturer Warranty:
This is the specific terms established by each manufacturer to repair vehicles for a specified mileage and/or time period. All factory installed parts are covered against defects and workmanship. This "bumper-to-bumper" warranty is always the most comprehensive.

Powertrain Warranty:
The portion that begins after the basic warranty expires. Typically, this covers only the engine and transmission. Many powertrain warranties are not transferable to new owners. Check your manufacturer warranty booklet for further details.

Federal Emissions Warranty
The Federal Emissions Warranty guidelines are based on federal regulations and apply to vehicles in all 50 states. Vehicles are covered by two types of emissions control system warranty, "Emission Defect Warranty" and "Emissions Performance Warranty".

Depending on the state you live in, the Performance Warranty is for 3 years/50,000 miles. The Defect Warranty is generally consistent with the manufacturer's bumper-to-bumper warranty with certain parts (catalytic converter and electronic emissions controls (PCM) for up to 8 years/80,000 miles. Please refer to your owner's manual for your exact emissions warranty.

Corrosion Warranty
Covers rust-through perforation on sheet metal for a specified term. Surface corrosion from scratched, nicks and dents are not covered. Please refer to your owner's manual for your exact corrosion warranty.
